Privacy Policy — Remind My Friends

1. Introduction

Remind My Friends (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) is a social alarm and timer application that lets you set reminders that ring on your friends’ phones. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

Apple ID credentials: We use Sign in with Apple for authentication. We receive your name (if you choose to share it) and email address (which may be an Apple relay address).
Display name and username: You choose a display name and unique username during setup.

2.2 Social Data

Friend connections: We store your friend list, including accepted, pending, and blocked relationships.
Reminder data: We store alarms and timers you create, including target times, labels, and recipient lists. We also store acknowledgment and snooze status for each recipient.

2.3 Device Information

Push notification token: We store your device token to deliver reminder notifications via Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
App preferences: We store your notification preferences and onboarding completion status locally on your device using UserDefaults.

2.4 Optional Contact Discovery

Hashed contact email addresses: If you choose to find friends from contacts, the app reads contact names and email addresses on your device. We send only SHA-256 hashes of normalized email addresses to our backend to match app users who have enabled contact discovery.
What stays on device: Contact names, phone numbers, and raw contact email addresses are not uploaded. The app does not automatically message your contacts.

2.5 Information We Do NOT Collect

Location data
Contact names, phone numbers, or your full address book
Photos, videos, or audio
Browsing or search history
Financial or payment information
Health or fitness data
Advertising identifiers

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to provide and improve the app:

Authentication: Verify your identity and maintain your session
Friend system: Enable friend search, requests, and connections
Contact discovery: Match hashed contact email addresses to app users who have opted in to being discoverable
Reminder delivery: Send alarms and timers to your friends’ devices at the scheduled time
Status updates: Show reminder acknowledgment and snooze status to senders
Notifications: Deliver push notifications for incoming reminders

We do not use your information for advertising, selling to third parties, user profiling, or training AI/ML models.

4. Data Sharing

We do not share your personal information with third parties except:

Apple: Authentication via Sign in with Apple, push notification delivery via APNs
Service providers: Our backend is hosted on Railway (railway.app). Your data is processed on their infrastructure to operate the service. All data is encrypted in transit via HTTPS. The backend uses a PostgreSQL database for data storage.
Legal requirements: If required by law, regulation, or legal process

5. Data Storage and Security

All data is transmitted via HTTPS (TLS 1.2 or higher)
Authentication tokens are stored securely
Server-side data is stored with encryption at rest
We retain your data for as long as your account is active

6. Your Rights

You can:

Access your data: View your profile, friends, and reminders in the app
Delete your account: Use the “Delete Account” option in Profile to permanently remove your data
Block users: Block any user to prevent them from sending you reminders
Mute notifications: Use the mute-all toggle or per-friend mute to control notifications

7. Children’s Privacy

Remind My Friends is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or via the email associated with your account.
